Golf Buddy VTX GPS Review
Review by Golfshake Ambassador Mel Davies - 12 Handicap
GolfBuddy is an American based company that is a renowned name in the golf rangefinder industry, who have created some of the most accurate and innovative products in the market, including wearables, handhelds, voice and laser, with each GPS being automatically preloaded with 38,000 courses worldwide.
Their latest handheld - the VTX - is a slim, lightweight design that is packed with features, chief among them being voice audio and bluetooth connectivity. Golfshake Ambassador Mel Davies has been testing it for us and shares his review.
Looks
The VTX looks really good. It's small enough to fit in your pocket or using the holster clip on your belt, or as I have been doing, attach to your bag (you can also purchase a "Universal Cart Mount" for trollies or carts priced around £25). It has one button on the side for power on/off and to lock/unlock, the front button is for the voice function or to return to the previous screen which in my eyes make it easy and simple to use/navigate.
Feel
It is touch screen and again is easy to use and navigate through the various screens on offer. Even though it is compact it feels very sturdy and the 2.7" touch screen is large enough for ease of use.
Performance
Very accurate yardages for all shots including to various hazards on the course. The battery life is superb, after 18 holes it still has 75% life left. It has various screens with lots of different information dependant on what you want to see. I personally like to use the basic screen with yardages to points on the hole and yardages to the green. You can move the pin on the green to the exact location. If you tap the front (voice) button it tells you the distance to the middle of the green, if you hold the button in it gives front and rear distances. You really can do as much or as little as you want with all its various features.
Pros
Very easy to use and navigate. I love the colour screen and the numerous features it has on offer. Excellent battery life. Easy to charge. This really has everything you would want from a handheld GPS.
Cons
Due to the numerous features you can get mixed up with exactly what you are trying to achieve but as you use it more that soon gets easier and better.
The Bottom Line
This is a really great GPS. Great features and the touch screen is of a very high standard. You can really get as much as you want from it with all its features.
