Greatest Women's Major Golf Champions in History

Golfers are immortalised and defined by their success in major championships, the events with the strongest fields and most historical significance. The men's game has been secure in their view of what a 'major' is since the days of Arnold Palmer, though it's fair to say that The Players Championship holds a sway in the minds of golfers on the PGA Tour. 

However, within the women's game, it's been a little unclear. Majors have been dropped, added and changed, making comparing eras a little more complicated. But when you tally up the successes of players of each generation, the true greats stand out. We look back at the most prolific major champions in the history of women's golf.

Patty Berg (United States)

15 Majors  -  Won Between 1937-1958 -1 U.S. Women's Open, 7 Western Opens, 7 Titleholders Championships. 

Mickey Wright (United States)

13 Majors - Won Between 1958-1966 - 4 Women's PGA Championships, 4 U.S. Women's Opens, 2 Titleholders Championships, 3 Western Opens.

Louise Suggs (United States)

11 Majors - Won Between 1946-1959 - 1 Women's PGA Championship, 2 U.S. Women's Opens, 4 Titleholders Championships, 4 Western Opens.

Annika Sorenstam (Sweden)

10 Majors - Won Between 1995-2006 - 3 ANA Inspirations, 3 Women's PGA Championships, 3 U.S. Women's Opens, 1 Women's British Open.

Babe Zaharias (United States)

10 Majors - Won Between 1940-1954 - 3 U.S. Women's Opens, 3 Titleholders Championships, 4 Western Opens.
