St Enodoc Showcases Hidden Gem Second Course
Many golfers will have experienced the championship Church Course at St. Enodoc Golf Club in north Cornwall, but the club has showcased its second layout, The Holywell, through dramatic drone footage.
Whilst the Holywell may be regarded as a short course by today’s standards – it measures just 4,082 yards and is comprised of nine par 3s and nine par 4s – it still provides a real test of golfing skill for players of all handicaps though it requires less length and stamina than the demanding Church Course that measures 6,547 yards from the back tees.
This makes it ideal for beginners and youngsters just getting to grips with the game and suitable for older golfers looking for an occasional round without having to deal with the challenging course elevations and scrambling required on the Church Course. Having said that certain golfers count the par 3 15th hole on the Holywell as the toughest par 3 in Cornwall so this second course is certainly no pushover.
Like the Church Course, The Holywell is a full 18 holes of links-style golf with its undulating fairways and fast-paced, target greens that offers spectacular views over the Camel Estuary and the north Atlantic Ocean as well as the rolling hills of Cornwall.
Moreover, after two years of investment by the club, the Holywell is now in the best shape it has ever been and is maintained to the same high standard as the main course.
Accessible to all, there is no need for any official handicap to play the Holywell and at just £25 per head for 18 holes, it’s both affordable and great value.
The Holywell is so called in honour of an ancient ‘Holy Well’ to the left of the 12th hole. Although the history of it is somewhat clouded, one theory suggests that St Enodoc may have baptized his converts there as this area was the site of a small settlement.
