Mickelson and Garcia's Birdie Barrage at Hazeltine
Despite European fans being left disappointed by the outcome, few will soon forget the sheer quality of golf displayed during the Ryder Cup. The Saturday Four Ball session, in particular, was absolutely stunning, and somehow the Singles on Sunday managed to surpass it.
The blockbuster meeting of McIlroy and Reed brought with it most attention and headlines, but it was the clash of two older heads, 46-year-old Phil Mickelson and 36-year-old Sergio Garcia, that produced the most fireworks. They have played in the biennial contest a combined 19 times, and at Hazeltine they shared 19 birdies in an astonishing match that was fittingly halved on the last with threes. It was a definitive Ryder Cup classic.
