High Handicap Journey to Improve Iron Play With Callaway

Custom Fitting is an experience that more golfers are undertaking each year, with technology and analysis matching them up with equipment that is most suited to their swing, technique and body shape. To explore the process and benefits, this season on Golfshake, we ran a campaign to identify three individual golfers and take them for a Custom Fitting Session with Callaway Golf, fitting them with a new set of irons, and following their progress throughout 2019 to see the difference it makes to their games.

On April 3rd, we took the guys along to Callaway's European Fitting Centre with Custom Fit Supervisor Mike Clark.

Golfshake Member Kevin Hyatt is a 24-handicap golfer, who we invited along to go through the fitting, and begin his journey to better iron play with his new Callaway Rogue Irons. Q&A with Kevin

Had you ever been fitted before for golf clubs?

"I'd never been fitted for clubs previously. I've always just tried some clubs out and purchased what felt good to me."

How did you feel before going in for the fitting?

"I was extremely interested in the whole process but was also quite nervous prior to the fitting. Being a higher handicapper, I was keen to bring some half decent shots with me in order to give the fitter something to work with." 

How was the fitting experience? 

"Thoroughly enjoyed the whole process. It's given me a greater insight into my game by virtue of the numbers around swing speed that I was producing. It's allowed me to go away and pair the clubs with a ball (Callaway Warbird) designed to my game."

Did it all make sense as Mike explained the fitting process as you went through it?

"Mike's explanations around the technology and why he was giving me different head/shaft combinations made it very easy to understand. "

How did you feel after the fitting?

"Excited to get my hands on the new clubs and put them into play."

How long did it take to receive your new clubs?

"Clubs arrived seven days after the fitting."

How much practice have you done with the new clubs?

"I work opposite a golf course so spend my lunch hours on the range, so I'm out for at least 40 minutes each day practicing."

What's the biggest difference you have noticed since getting your custom fitted clubs?

"I've got more confidence in my equipment knowing it's been shaped to my swing and not just bought off the shelf."

Have you noticed any significant improvements so far?

"I've definitely noticed more consistent strikes, I’m hitting the ball straighter and getting some extra distance from each club when compared to my old clubs."

Would you recommend a custom fitting?

"I would most definitely recommend custom fitting."
