A new colour of tee??
I think we need a new tee box.....
Have been thinking on this for a while - so bear with me :-)
Men - yellow tees and white tees - difference between the two can turn a course into a completely different beast, im sure you will all agree. Once you advance, you can move up to white tees and give yourself a challenge.
Women - red tee. Thats it, nothing else. You can move up to the yellow tees but competition wise (for us mere amateurs) its reds all the way. And as a woman, playing in mixed competitions, but with ability to hit ball quite, well, some of the red tee placements i often feel like im taking the proverbial!!
I play with my Dad quite a lot, and he is at the age (hope he doesnt read this!!) when his distance off the tee is diminishing, but he still tees it up off the whites every Saturday in the hope that it will be his day (as do we all!)
How about a tee in between the reds and yellows for advancing women or senior men??

Our lady captain hits the ball for miles Red tees are no good for her, mind you rumour has it she was once eligible to play in the mens comps. So I suppose she's got a bit of an advantage there!!!!!!!!!

Yes, thanks Richard for your non sexist reply!
Im sure it will never happen, but the standards between the womens game can vary hugely. I was out on course with my Mum today, hit a 260 yard drive, she was flabbergasted! In her day, most of par 4's were par 5 and she kept telling me to lay up on the long holes.
When im out with Dad and brother i play the yellows to give myself a bit of challenge (and to give my Dad a fairer match)
I will just stick to the red tees and my fellow society golfers moaning when i get a 60 yard advantage of the tees (and sometimes an extra stroke on the hole!! hehe)

When a new course is designed these days, the emphasis is to make it long enough to test the modern professional and scratch amateur.
Unfortunately it is not the professional or scratch amateur that will end up playing this course after it has had its one championship (All courses these days are advertised as a championship golf course).
My club is one of these monsters with the added difficulty of, not only the vast length, but also the placing of hazards directly in front of every green, thus making it impossible for me, at my age and strength to hit any of these greens in regulation figures, being unable to carry over these hazards.
Years ago all hazards were placed to the left and right of the fairways to catch the errant shot leaving the golfer who could hit it straight gain the advantage of that. Running a ball in low against the wind was an art in itself, which has now been lost to the game, to its detriment.
Then of course we come to the greens. We have players on this website that really do believe they are good putters but would leave my course totaly shattered by the experience of trying to get down in two on every green. Augusta is flat in comparison.

Jane, its fantastic for you to be ripping the couse apart off the reds, Thus your handicap will show this. Your dad will also show a similar leveling out off the yellows/ whites acording to his ability. The pair of you should be able to have a good match with your respective handicaps. Is this not the case?

I wish i was consistant enough to rip it up off the reds! but when some of the yardages and corresponding par/stroke index are laughable at times!
He wouldnt play me if i played off the reds as we are both same handicap but even off yellows i can out drive him with a 3 wood.
Was just something had thought about the last few times we were out..... i know its never going to happen.

Jane, in fairness to your Dad, you can hit it past me with a 3 wood most of the time as well!!
I think there just needs to be less of a difference between reds and yellows, making the gap between the reds & yellows and yellows & whites the same so everyone can make a balanced step up for medal play with the women playing off the yellows when the blokes play off the whites. (For example red 340y yellow 360y white 380y)
One think that definately be scrapped is making par 4s into par 5s for women when they are playing a shorter hole.
