Matchplay Series Write up
2nd July 2011
Graham Fearnley (13) & Alan Arnett (21) V Stuart Laws (8) & Neil Beech (13)
Venue – Aldwark Manor
Weather – Beautiful (sunshine all the way)
The day started very early with a 7:00am tee off time, tactics employed from the beginning with the plan by Graham & Alan to get Stuart and Neil around the course before they had time to wake up.
The 1st hole saw Graham secure an early lead with a bogey score
Hole 2 was cheekily won with a birdie from Alan sinking a 35-40 foot putt to go 2 - 0
At the tee box of the 3rd it was clear Stuart was feeling the pressure as he made a
practice swing and pulled something in his back but not to be seen to be
unsympathetic Graham produced from his bag his magic back pain (horse strength) pain relievers.
While these kicked in it was left to Neil to carry the fight and he promptly halved
the 3rd & 4th holes.
By the time we got to the 5th Graham decided to tell Stuart he should not have the (horse) tablets on an empty stomach and promptly threw him a banana when it became obvious that Stuart is no cricketer as he missed the catch and as a result wished he had been wearing a “box” to avoid the following pain he was now suffering from his “man bits”, maybe this was a distraction but Alan went on to clinch this hole in par. 3 – 0
At the 6th Graham hit a perfect drive down the middle, and put a 9 iron to within ten feet and made par to secure the hole, 4 – 0
7th hole halved with Net Pars.
The 8th was won by Alan with a bogey 6, 5 - 0
The 9th was a par for G, 6 -0
And the 10th was halved with Stuart and Graham both making excellent birdies.
The 11th were taken by Alan making par to go Dormay 7
Both Stuart and Neil Parred the 12th to claim their first winning hole to keep the match alive.
Graham completed the match halving the 13th to win 6 / 5
Despite the winning margin it was a good natured and a closer encounter than the final result shows, hopefully Stuart and Neil enjoyed our company as much as we enjoyed theirs.

Aldwark is a great course, played their in April. The last few holes are really tight, I can imagine it would provide an exciting finish to a matchplay game if you get that far

I'm still trying to chase people but as you can see very few matches so far. Likelyhood is a few of the leagues will get merged.
