Marking Ones Balls
I seem to be the only one in my group that marks my ball. I carry 2 balls in my pocket both with my initials on and one with 1st marked on it and one with 2nd marked on my other in case of a provo.
We were playing today and we were all using tit prov1 no3. What is the official ruling on this as I thought no 2 identical balls were allowed to be carried by 1 person.

2 rules from the rulebook:
6-5. Ball
The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his ball.
12-2. Identifying Ball
The responsibility for playing the proper ball rests with the player. Each player should put an identification mark on his ball.

Golf balls have always been given identification by the manufacturer and I see no reason to add anything else to the ball. I always state the number and make I am using and if there are others with the same then either they change or I do.
The game of golf is supposed to be an honourable game but it seems to me that this is changing pretty rapidly.
As to marking a line around the ball to supposedly aid putting, don't even go there.

James,
To be a rule the word is "must" not "should"
