Golf ball advice
Hi there
I started playing golf last September and I've got my average score down to around 100 -- with a rough handicap of about 26. For the last 9 months, I've largely played with lake balls/what I've found etc. Although recently I bought a pack of Srixon Distance balls which I've got on quite well with. The only thing is, I'm trying to work out whether I really should be using a distance ball at all, or something with better "feel".
My tee shots with a driver will go an average of about 200-220 yards, I guess -- but can range from 150 yards to 270, depending on how well I connect/conditions etc. Crucially, I AM looking for something that'll reduce spin from the tee -- something which will help eliminate slices etc. My driver swing is still a work in progress and sometimes I have a slice which I'm trying to eradicate. I realise a ball won't do this for me but if there's one out there which will negate driver spin, that is obviously a priority for me.
The other issue I have is around the greens.... chippind and putting and feeling confident with my wedge. So I'm wondering if a softer feeling ball might inspire confidence. I WAS thinking of trying the Titleist DT Solo or Srixon "Soft Feel" balls but I'm not sure if: a) I'd sacrifice too much distance and b) my swing speed is low enough for those balls?
I don't know my swing speed but here are my average distances in case they might help anyone advise:
8-iron - 130 yards
7-iron - 145 yards
6-iron - 160 yards
5-iron - 175 yards
So the priorities for me are:
1) Distance but straight off the tee/ie. low spin
2) Good feel/better spin around the green
Reading the reviews makes it seem that the Srixon Soft Feel might be good for me, but would I sacrifice too much distance. Do you have any thoughts/guidance to offer?
If there's any advice you could give with helping me choose the right ball, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks,
Neil

I started using the Srixon Soft Feel last winter and I was very impressed with them.
Back with the Pro V1s for the summer months, but I will certainly go back to the soft feel golf balls next winter.

Neil,
Have you tried looking at the online ball fitting sites by Titleist, Bridgestone and Srixon? Link to Bridgestone one below.

Neil,
Can i suggest trying the Wilson Dx2. Not an expensive ball (about £15 a dozen), low spin, good distance but only a 50 compression so feels very soft. I used these for 10 months with very good results and based on what you are after I think these could be the solution you are looking for
