A Bad day at the "Office"
So on the closing day of entries for our Club Matchplay back in March I was talking to my doubles partner on the "main" course and he mentioned that he did not have a partner on our "second" course. I suggested he could pair up with my son who prefers that course anyway (a little more open)
So the draw comes out and both my partner and I (defending champions) and my son and my other partner get byes, but we are drawn to play in round 2.
So today was the day, and a close match was all square on the 17th tee, 17th was halved with both my son and I getting 5's with a shot. So its off to the 18th tee all to play for, anyone who knows The Priors course at Stapleford Abbotts then the 18th is a par 3 over water, 140yds from the tee with the green starting at 130yds+ the green is small and nested in a corner so you have OB Left and through the back.
I carried my ball over the water a couplof yard s right of the green one big hop forwards and through the back OB, My partner hit his just left of the green same result hopped left OB, my son's partner put it in the water. My son who was getting a shot on the whole then proceeded to follow the advice I gave himebefore his singles match on the same course a couple fo weeks ago and Chipped 90 yards left of the water and short of the OB then onto the green. Match Lost 1 down.
As I am palying for the club tomorrow we had already decided to play the medal after the round so I could see the pin positions. My son shoots a net 69, I had a nightmare 81, and as he is (was) off 28 and I am 18 he also beat me on strokeplay, first time he has beaten me on strokes.
So my a**e has been so whipped I can barely sit down!
I feel for Mr McDowell and what he went rhoguh today, currently up to the 13th hole on the recording we are watching.
Oh and Well done the lad! he is buzzing, hopefully he will play as well in his singles match tomorrow on the same course.

I knew the time would come just had hoped to postpone it for another 12 months, will always end up a better golfer than I can hope to get to as long as he keeps focusing. There was a round a few months back when I had a terrible front 9 and had shot 54, at the turn he ponted out he was 5 shots ahead of me, I shot 39 on the back nine. Now I normally shoot better on th back than the front but that had focussed the mind.
I guess that "incentive" is gone now as he has done it. He finsihed 2nd in the medal, courtesey of a 9 on a par 4, got cut 2 shots which is about right for where he should be on his current progress. Then went out and beat the guy on Sunday 6 & 5, on our easier course where he would probably be a 23-24 handicap.
For the record I drew my doubles match was 50/50 through the round with my partner. though I ended up having to hole two 3-4 footers for halfs at the last 2 holes when on both occasions had hoped they would be for the win, great match 2 down after 2 holes won 3rd, never more than a hole in it and ended up all square and played against a great couple of guys in a very friendly spirit.
