Should swearing be banned?
Hello Golfshake!
This is my first ever post! I am 10 years old and played my second round of golf with my Dad today, and although I didn't do that well, I still did better than last time so hurray for improvement! I really liked most of the people we met today, they seem really nice. But on the second hole a rather nasty man started to shout at me that I was playing too slowly. I know that slow play is discouraged, but this was only my second game and my Dad says we weren't that slow. My Dad waved the man and his friend through and told him he didn't have to be so rude. The man swore a lot at my Dad and said that beginners like me shouldn't be taking up the course when he wanted to play. I don't think this man should be allowed on golf courses with that sort of behaviour. Which is worse slow play or rude behaviour?

Laura, It was sad to hear that this "Nasty Man" gave you and your dad a mouthful just becase you are a beginner. This should not be tolerated, But would be very hard to police if swearing was to be banned. I did however see you just broke 100 for 9 holes and your dad says you were not holding the group behind up. Normal pace over 9 holes to me would be 2hrs although I have known 3 hours which is unbareable.(do you know how long you took? ) I think the nasty man may have been fustrated seeing 10 or more shots per hole. I would have asked " do you mind if we play through" Slow or begineers usually comply as they dont like people close behind. I dont know what its like in your area, but I would try to learn the game on a short 9 hole or a par three so you can hit the ball 80-100 yds most times then you will feel more confident yourself and not intimidated by groups behind. Best of luck and keep those scores coming down.
Dave CAC handed Geordie.

I swore alot today. Only at myself but none the less, my golf would have been better had I not! As for ladies that cant hit the ball more that 50 yards, if they pay their money to play and they have booked a slot, that was just bad timing. I'm sure they love the game just as much and try just as hard. Live and let live. (my net 77 was the reason for swearing so please take pity on me!)
