competition handicap certificate help please!

Hi All,

new to this site but i hope you can help me.

Ive been entered into a competition at the Belfry in september and i am currently not a member of a golf club. I have played golf since i was 12 and was a member of a club until around 2 years ago (work commitments lead me to lapse). My handicap when i left my last club was 6.7.

I have spoken to this club today and they are not willing to provide me with a certificate for my past handicap as im not a member and it is not apparently in their interest. angryhttp://www.golfshake.com/scripts/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/angry_smile.gif" title="angry" />

My question to you is, am i able to use an online certificate gained from submitting cards between now and my competition?

The only thing i am worrying about is that ive not been consistently playing to 7 so my 'new' online handicap my not be 7 which i feel would be unfair to the other players in the competition. Not that they would know, but i would and my conscience could not take that.

Somebody please help me!

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Depends on the competition but if you check they may well accept the Golfshake handicap.  Most do if you get issues it's generally in Open Club competitions which by design are for club members to visit another club and compete in a competition.

I would argue that you set your starting handicap here on Golfshake at 6.7 and then add rounds from this point forward.

I can see your frustration from your past club!   on the flip side I know one guy who maintained his handicap here on Golfshake which was about 14 and similar to a past club handicap from many years ago.  When he went to join a new club he asked to start with his Golfshake handicap but they would only start with an existing active club handicap, he therefore entered 3 new cards didn't play well and was given 20!  needless to say he had one of two high scoring matches as the newbie!!

Regards, Darren.
