Looking to join a club round Orpington area

Posted by: user305417 | Tue 22nd Mar 2011 01:50 | Last Reply

Hi all

First post.

I am thinking of joining a golf club and wonder if there are any recommendations round Orpington area.  I play different courses at moment - but probably the majority of my rounds are at Cray Valley - which is a crown golf pay&play course.

Reasons for joining are to play more, to be able to practice and for competition.   I would virtually only play full rounds at weekends although I would like the chance to get some holes in on a summer evening.   I would prefer a members club (as against a pay&play type club) but there don't seem to be a lot of these close to me unless I am missing them

Chislehurst is probably the nearest course to me (10mins) and seemed to have greens in good condition when I played it in January - but it is very short (4805yds off the yellows) and doesn't appear to have much in the way of practice facillities although I could be wrong on that.  It is also quite expensive at approx £1450 per year but it would allow me to jump off train on way home from work and play in evenings which is a big plus.  We are relatively new to the area and don't know any members there but they seem to have some scheme for people new to the area.

I would be joining with my partner so if there were deals for couples that would be a plus!

Thanks

Steve, you are fortunate enough to live close by to many courses, most of which are not all that special, but if I were thinking of joining a club in your area then I would plump for Sundridge Park Golf Club.

36 holes of well established golf.

Hi Steve, if you access this page and search for Orpington it will provide the courses in the area

http://www.golfshake.com/course/search/map/

you can then filter by those with memberships available plus read the reviews here on Golfshake.  Admittedly we are still working through the courses to get them to update the information we hold.

Regards, Darren.

Hi Steve,

You should try Park Wood at Tatsfield, not far from you. Nice course, well maintained, good practice area, excellent food - a friendly members club. Not expensive for the area either........

Played there a few times last year, and joined this year!

Pretty much Steve, we are just reviewing the data we have at present to ensure we have all the location details plus getting the clubs to update with current facilities and any offers or promotions.
