Can you tee off the first with a yellow ball then change to a white one on the fifth or sixth or any other hole for that matter? Non comp or comp both being club golf with my mates.

As far as i know yes you can but only afer you have finished each hole.

you cannot change a ball during the hole. i.e whichever ball you tee with you have to finish the hole with it, unless you lose it obviously

Stuart,

Darren is almost correct as there is another way you can change your ball during a hole & that is if becomes damaged, i.e split etc. You must inform your playing group / partners what you intend to do & you must show them.

John.

I may be wrong here but if you change a ball at the end of a hole I think it has to be of the same make and model as the ball you started your round with or is that just for the pro's?

Chris,

As far as I am aware I don't think there is any rule that stipulates that you have to play with the same type / brand ball throughout your round?

Obviousley with the pros there are probably endorsments involved & preferred choices.

The FAQs applying to Rules of Golf state that there is no requirement under the Rules that a player uses the same type of ball throughout the round.  In competition however the Committee may intoduce a "One Ball Condition" which provides that the ball a player uses must be of the same brand and type etc.  This is not recommended for amatuer golfers as "most Amateur golfers cannot be expected to have golf balls which consist entirely of the same brand and type.

Rule 5.1.
