Driver shaving/grinding

Posted by: user351506 | Sun 6th Mar 2011 13:44 | Last Reply

Has anyone heard about grinding or shaving the face of your driver?

I am new to golf so maybe this is an old thing? i saw it advertised on ebay, bassically thiscompany will grind/shave the face of your driver making it thinner to give it a 'trampoline effect' apparently this will send your ball about 20-30 yards further!!

Now i'm not going to do this as i know its me not the club that will make a difference on how far and straight i hit it.

1 is it legal with the R&A and PGA?

2 has anyone tried it does it work?(this is just curiosity)

Cheers Chris

Chris

yes I've heard of it and yes, to a certain extent it does work, although how much diference it would make to us hackers is debatable.  And yes, it's not legal, as the driver will then become non-confoming as the COR's and MOI's may well exceed whatever random figure the USPGA and R & A decide is flavour of the month at the moment.

I could go into how and why it works in more detail if you want depending on a) how much detail you want me to go into and b) how long it takes me to sober up from a bit of boozy lunch.

I think if you're prepared to let someone loose on your driver with a grinder then the warranty is probably the least of your worries..
