single figure handicap
Well what can i say but my year end goal of getting to a single figure handicap has arrived already.
played today at thornhurst manor near doncaster and shot a gross 78 (+6) scoring a total of 41 points (OFF 11) and recieving a 1.2 handicap cut putting me now down to 9.4 exact.
before anyone bursts my little euphoria bubble, this unfortunately is only a temporary measure as when the algarve scores get entered i will get a 0.5 increase because i played like a total twat there and never scored above 28 points
but for now anyway i am in that league of SINGLE FIGURE HANDICAPPERS!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO

Congratulations on becoming a single figure golfer (even if it is only for a short while), but remember Lee Westwood was world number one, but only for a short while.
The main thing is that you have got there on merit and despite your Portugal scores it won't take you long to get it back down there.
Hopefully I'll join you sometime this year, but at the moment I keep sneaking up 0.1 each round I play.
This is despite only being one or two shots over my buffer zone each round!

Well done Darren, might have been more if you hadn't lost that ball (from a reasonable shot that ricoche'd off the tree on the second. I thought the placements of the winter mats was incomprehensible. Most didn't line up to the fairway, three of four had trees 20 yds directly in front of them. Lets hope the lower handicap spurs you on.

Did you play off the back tees?

No David, though if we had it would have much more character and a been a bit more of a challenge (that's not to detract from Darren's score as there were only a few of us that managed 36 pts +, wheteher that was to do with the mossy bobbling greens I'm not sure). The second hole being a good example of that: it was like playing a par 3 as we were teeing off at the dogleg.
I feel that Thornhurst could be a good course but it's quite obvious that the management have not put the investment into the course maintenance and so often you see it, the longer it is left the worse it becomes until it gets to a point of continual deterioration as the cost to get it back to shape becomes increasingly unacceptable to them. It's a shame. Still we got to play it for £18 with coffee and bacon sandwiches which is pretty good for a Sat morning. I'd definately give it another visit in summertime.

well done Darren. Me and Martin were discussing who would win in the latter stages of our round as he had decent round going, he tipped you if you were driving straight so I guess you must have been.

Well done mate, unfortunately for you I think you'll be staying in single figures for the CGL matches if your brother has got anything to do with it. It was even better when you actually consider the state of the course, which was frankly shocking. I think Pat was being pretty generous with his comments, I've played neglected municiples in better condition, and I can't see it recovering from it's neglect. OK, so the weather has been pretty bad, but I've played a lot of courses during this winter and that was by far the worst.
Sorry about the little derail Darren, had to get that one off my chest...
