taking a divot
after my lesson the other night i have had to alter my swing agian.
Before i was swinging ok and making good contact but on my backswing i was going in making all my shots go to the right.
So he got me to work on bringing the club back more straight and work on my shoulder allignment. I understand that what he is saying is right and that i need to work on it to be a good golfer but now im having trouble hitting the ball, im either taking a divot before the ball, or topping it i cant seem to get it right I have hit a few shorts cleanly with my new swing and they go straight and where im aiming, so i know it works if i can do it.
Off to the range later any tips on how to do ball divot?
Thanks in advance

Put a tee in the middle of your stance and swing as normal. Now take another tee and place it at the back of your divot and swing as normal again - keep doing this until you are taking the tee before your divot at least 3 times.
Now that you have established "ball position" put a ball down where you placed your tee and swing as normal - hopefully the ball sould now be wizzing through the air..

Matt,
Set up as normal and put a tee in middle of stance where the ball would normally be.
Then swing as normal and then look at your divot. Place a tee at the back of that divot and set up again as normal with the club head behind the tee. Then swing as normal.
Keep doing this until you are regularly taking the tee before the divot. Once you have sussed this just place your ball where the tee was and swing as normal.
Basically, what you are doing is establishing your ball position.

Would not worry too much about either a slight fade or draw Matt. My normal shot is a slight fade and I take this into account on allignment.
To play a draw try this:
1) Beckam is 20 yrds outside the box and has a 4 man wall in front of him which, he is going to curl the ball round. Now, imagine how he is going to kick that ball. The inside of his right foot will come through the ball from "bottom left" to "top right" and the ball will "draw round the 4 man wall" (hopefully).
2) Now take your club and just imagine a football boot where the club head is and in your foward swing turn your wrists as to imitate the "boot to ball" of Becks.
3) Okay, now take the boot off and putt the club head back. Your going to do exactly the same now with the club head.
4) Imagine the shot - picture the ball curling to the draw as it moves majestically through the air.
5) At set up I face the club head at my intended target - lets say the pin. Then I turn my feet and body to the right. This aids an inside to out through swing and done correctly sends the ball off into the distance and finishing in a nice draw..
6) To fade the ball I set up as normal but open my stance slightly by just turning my shoulders to the left.
These kind of shots can be practised at the range Matt and I would suggest a short iron and ball on a short tee to start with.
Oh and go easy - steady away nice and smooth..
On the way home think of nothing more than lady Becks - on arrival at home you will be ready for a cold shower...
Don't get me wrong Matt I am no great shakes at draws/fades and it is easy to type a good golf game...
