Lessons or Clubs?
Hi Everyone,
Am new to the game and I was wondering if it would be wiser if i got lessons before getting a good set of clubs so i wont pick up any bad habits a long the road in learning how to play golf.
Thanks, hopefully you all can help me make y mind up.

I'd say without a shadow of a doubt, get lessons. Get the basics correct first ,grip, stance, alignment, etc. Say spend half of what you were going to spend on lessons and get yourself a decent set of second hand clubs with the other half.
What is your budget? Cheeky, I know, but we could help guide you.
Try golfbidder.co.uk or ebay - make sure you ask for serial numbers and don't be taken in with new shiny clubs at a very low price.
Hope that helps.

I would also say lessons. If you have lessons at a range with a shop the pro will be able to guide you as to what will fit your swing etc. You will also get to try the clubs out. Then you can go onto either of the above sites and pick them up.

This was from another post but highlights the importance of lessons etc against starting out and having clubs fitted. Not sure every fitter would be as sincere though
Great thing as well with Titleist my friend also went for a fitting at the same time and due to how he was swinging the fitter told him he wouldn't give him a recommendation on any clubs, but would happily fit him again in a couple of months FOC after he'd had a lesson or two. So nice a manufacturer not just trying to sell you clubs for the sake of it.

Lessons for me everytime.
How about this, get a lesson on putting/chipping.
Then you can practice putting and chipping, something that will help to get your scores lower once you get out on the course.
Once you've had the putting/chipping lesson you can purchase a putter and a pitching wedge.
Learn to do things the correct way from the start and you will save yourself so much hassle and pain later on!
Once you have had more lesson you can then worry about getting a full set of clubs.
The Scandinavians learn the game from the short game up. In this country the first thing most people do is get a driver and go down the range and smash them as far as they can!
