Lessons!!!!

Posted by: user79118 | Sun 20th Feb 2011 15:45 | Last Reply

Had my first ever lesson with the pro at my golf club yesterday. He didn't fill my head with too much to remember on this lesson but gave me 3 key points to remember in my set up / addressing of the ball. They were 1, my shoulders, (aiming left before), 2, weight on the balls of my feet, (evenly spread between balls and heels before), 3, ball position, keep it in middle of stance, (too wide a spread between clubs before). Now people say on these forums that you will go backwards for a while after lessons until your new swing is engrained. What I found after todays round was only a slight going backwards (due to a couple of bad holes) but virtually every shot went alot straighter than previously but with a loss of distance. I kind of feel restricted in my swing with this new setup but I'm going to persist with it, especially if it keeps me as straight as it did today. If it hadn't been for the 2 or 3 bad holes I could well have shot sub 80, especially if the lipped out putts had dropped. Never thought I'd ever have a lesson but as my handicap seems to be stuck I thought I'd give them a try. Could be the best move I ever make.

Chris,

The 'points' you have been told do not effect the swing too much so you will not find too much trouble in seeing good results.

David, I agree with what your saying but the point I'm trying to make is that all lessons don't need to be painfull and fill you with the feeling that this is gonna hurt. I do have other things to work on in the future such as  weight transfer to the left, forearm rotation, my head moves a little bit too much, need to move my swing slightly more in to out etc but these will all come in time and with practice. Get the basics right and the rest should be a piece of cake. Hmmmmm.
