Golf ball confusion
As a relative newcomer on a h/cap of 26, I am throughly confused about what balls to use. There seems to be so many to chose from!! Can anyone recommend the make and type of ball I should be using? I have a relatively low swing speed and although 63 I am very fit. Thanks.

Hi Barrie
I would suggest, as a new comer, some high grade second hand/lake balls.
If your anything like the rest of us when we first started you may lose a few anyway.
The other option is 24 Dunlop for £3 from sports direct.

As a newcomer myself I am also confused by the different ball types and look forward to the more experienced giving their opnion here.
One thing I would recommend is whatever ball type you use try a different coulured ball (I'm using Yellow at the moment) - Makes the ball easier to see in flight and when landing (or it does fo rme anyway!).

As a beginner buy cheap golf balls, the cheaper the better if you are going to lose them all!
When I came back to golf I was using the Donnay balls, felt good when I hit them with a full shot and ok around the greens.
As you play you will lose plenty of golf balls, but you will also find many different brands/types of golf balls.
Try these balls and see if you like them.
You will tell within a couple of holes if you like the golf ball or you think it's like hitting a pebble!
Narrow down the golf balls you like to play with.
Once you have say six main golf balls that you like to play with pick one of them and play only with that ball.
Using the same ball will lead to more consistency in your rounds. You'll get used to the way the ball reacts around the greens.
All this can be done over time, so take your time and make sure you pick the correct golf ball for your game.
