How not to get help!

Posted by: user202037 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Mon 10th Jan 2011 11:42 | Last Reply

I have seen bad attitude in Pro Shops, Clubhouses and Courses over the years but never from the Police, until today!

Last night here in Leeds the Temp dropped below Freezing and rain this morning made untreated roads a nightmare.

I was in my Office at home and saw the Police block off the road into my estate and didn't think much about it until I saw an Ambulance with Blue lights on go through the closure. I am expecting visiors later today so I went out to see what was the problem and how long the road would be closed.

I was met by the sight of two Community Constables with a wheelbarrow throwing Sand onto the road surface.

I met them with "Arh, It's only black-ice then, the road will be OK in a few hours?"

What came back shocked me.

CC1 "It will be closed all day. There have been twenty accidents so far in this area"

CC2 "What do you expect us to do, just stand at the top the hill and stop traffic".

CC1 "This isn't part of our job, we're aiding the community"

CC2 "Do you think we should just leave it and let cars come down here"

CC1 "Roads get priority over pavements, go away and stop complaining"

ME "Wow, just a minute"

CC1 "Leave the area now!"

Stupid thing was that if they had been more civil, I would have got my friend who lives across from me and we would have got our spades and gone and helped them.

BTW, they re-opened the road within an hour.

The bad conditions this morning reminded me of a story from some years back.

A Milk Float slid on ice and crashed into a wall at the bottom of a hill. Police were called and a Panda Car arrived and as the two Policemen got out the car started to slide down the hill. Quick as a flash one of them opened the boot, took out a Tow Rope and tied the car to a lamp-post. It was still there several hours later. Many of the residents took photo's, wish I could get hold of one.
