Do you score lower on temp. greens ?
The reason I ask is that I had my lowest score ever today but it feels a hollow achievement because the course was playing shorter than normal because of the temporary greens in use (many of which were in front of the normal greens). My wife also had her lowest ever score.

Well played, Phil, it is no easier playing to temporaries as opposed to the the real greens, in my opinion.

Phil, the very same thing happened to me the other week - had a cracking round in the snow and shot 82 for 44 points. (Those that know me, know that it was a freak round so please, let's not start the b*****t debate!!).
I did a bit of digging. As I understand it, there are (at least?) 3 reasons that my round was not a "qualifying" round:
1) the temporary tees and greens reduced the course yardage by more than 100 yds
2) there were more than 3(?) temp greens in play
3) "bucket" holes were in play
That said, I really enjoyed the round in the snow and revelled in taking this years Christmas trophy from my colleagues.
I answer to your question, generally the scores from those playing were better than usual (36 points only got you 5th place out of 8) so yes I think in our case it was easier - mainly due to the bucket holes.

You can only play what is in front of you, Phil. Avery good score and well worth opening the bottle.

That's still pretty good Phil... break open the Champagne anyway. No doubt you'll break 100 again in the coming year when there will be no doubt about whether it is a "proper" round or not... put another bottle in the cooler ready...
PS - someone I know broke a milestone last year (think it was 100) but I know for sure that there were a few times that he "bent" the rules. In the back of his mind I'm sure he knew as well. It will come...

At the municipal course where I play, it's much more difficult to make a good score on temp greens. The holes are normal size, the greens tiny and very bobbly. Some of them are cut way into the rough so if playing in a frost, you can neither fire the ball in high because it just bounces, nor can you run it in on the ground, because it won't run due to the rough!
In fact, if I turn up there in future and all temps are on, I'd be inclined to get in the car, turn around and go home!
As for the positioning of some of the winter mats..... All I can say is whoever aligned them the way they are must have a severe slice!

Haha! So do I mate. Was just starting to go off on one about things that annoy me at the local course, but I suppose Iget what I pay for which isn't a lot at the moment.
If you can score well on temps, then the proper greens should be a breeze was what I was trying to say.
