"SwingReader" Iphone App

Posted by: user320447 | Wed 1st Dec 2010 21:28 | Last Reply

I downloaded the "SwingReader" app for my Iphone some time ago (in the videos I've got it's sunny, so that shows JUST how long ago it was!) and haven't used it much since, despite it being a good looking app.

Anyway, they've just made a MASSIVE update to it, which makes it a whole load better, so I'd like to start using it a little bit more.

I'm just a little stumped as to where I should be drawing lines on my body with it and what I should be looking for in the swing. I get that a circle around my napper shows head movement and that should be minimal, but the rest is lost on me!

Does anyone else use this app or similar? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

I can't really comment on the lines but a Golfshake member developed a similar app called SwingPlane.

I use a similar app called V1. You can do all manor of things but when using it view the swing from behind you only really need 2 lines.

  • The main line should run from ball to shoulder height but running along the line of the shaft, so the line will extend straight from the ball through the top of the shaft extending behind you untill it reached around shoulder height.
  • The next line is a mirror of this line i.e same length approx running exactly parralel but the centre of this line should touch the top of the shoulder.
  • You should be looking to achieve the following in the swing.

  • When swinging the backswing should have the club head on or above this line, if the clubface is below the line then you are bringing the club inside which will generally cuause a slice.
  • At the top of the swing the left arm should be on the second line with the line running from shoulder through the glove.
  • On starting the downswing the hands should then be brought back down towards the 1st line. If the hands go above the second line on the way down this will cause theclub head to be thrown over the top again causing a slice.
  • The aim should then be to get the clubhead to come back on to or just underneath the first line. If the club head is above the line you are attacking the ball from the outside, causing you to cut across the ball causing a slice.
  • The final aim is to get the shaft of the club at impact to match the first line above the line you are to steap causing a slice, below the line will promote a hook.
  • The best way to see what should happen is to film a pro swing off youtube or the TV and see what they do. You will notice they all have very different swings, but they all do the above things. Then pick a pro who's swing mirrors yours the most and try and get your planes to match there's.

If you want to see how it really should be done try analysing Alex Noren or Charles Howell III swings as they are as good and as corract as it gets. Don't look at someone like Westwoods as he does do a few things wrong that if copied would hamper us mere mortals.

Thanks for both your replies, that's great!

Gary, I read your post and didn't have a clue what you meant ... got the app out and went through it step-by-step and it made perfect sense! Ha ha! Thanks a lot!
