Accused of Cheating
Recently played a game of golf in a competition and ended up winning. After getting showered I found out that one of the 4 of us had told everyone that a ball I hit into the rough wasn't the one I found and I had put another down claiming it was mine.
Firstly I was shocked that when I found my ball I identified it with that person nearby and he never made any accusations at that point so I could get the others to confirm the ball was the one I hit.
I was furious at being accused of something I new not to be true and then offered to withdraw as I felt I could not recieve a trophy that may be tainted with the suspicion it was not won fairly. The person who accused me had gone in a huff, so I could not ask him to explain why he had made his accusation.
However the rest of the great people who I played with insisted I took the trophy.
I still feel angry because it spoilt my day and the celebration I should have been making.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
What would you have done?

IF YOU FOUND YOUR BALL AND IDENTIFIED IT WITH A WITNESS , AND KNOW YOU DID NOTHING WRONG F'''K THE GUY IN A HUFF , WELL DONE AND BE PROUD OF WINNING.
HAPPILY NOT BEEN ACCUSED OF CHEATING MYSELF

I love the game, and don't play to win everything. I compete more against myself and this is why I am a member of golfshake. I can track how over the last 4 years I have got better and that means more to me.
next to beat 80
I appreciate the support - it makes me feel much better

Sounds like this guy thought he saw something he didn't. Told someone what he thought he saw and was told he didn't see it. So went off in a huff.
If he had any REAL thoughts that something was wrong he should have approached the Organisers with his feelings. They would then have made a final, standing decision.

Gary, don't give it a second thought. It's the most clear cut case of of sour grapes. If there was any suspicion of foul play he'd have hung around. The fact that he slithered off early speaks volumes.

Don't give it a second thought, any discepancies should be highlighted at the moment it occurred!

It is a great point that Chris Watmore raises, if you 100% saw someone cheating then i totally agree, highlight it there and then.
If it's 'in your face' blatant cheating i totally agree, i would never want to play with him again.
I hate cheating as more often than not they are cheating themselves and possibly others out of trophies or cash bets. Kick em into touch i say and name and shame the cheats.... BUT you need to make sure you have sufficient proof in your own mind for you to do this....
It happens, but they eventually are found out........
