6 iron off fairway.
I was playing a shortish (5500 yd) course at the weekend and decided to hit mostly mid irons off the tee to get a bit of practice. I was creaming some 6 irons very consistantly 180-190 yd inc roll. This left me 9 iron or pitch into most greens. I struggle with 6 iron or longer off the fairway. What adjustments should be made so I can get a better stike from the turf. Off the tee I was using a blue measured peg and ball dead central in stance. Is it just a case of trying to hit it for a full round, and see what works?
Any help would be welcome.

sean, your not wrong, that's a long way to hit a 6 iron, i for one can't hit it 180-190 yards, with no wind i would have to hit a 4 iron for 190 y.

Nor me, Alan, especially as he is taking it from a tee peg, which will hit shorter than one off the turf.

Any particular reason why you are suggesting playing the ball left of centre, Pat?

Dave take your six iron and drag a line in the grass where your ball position would be preferably middle stance. Take swings without a ball and try and take a divot just in front of the line, repeat this several times. If you master this you will get good contact on the ball.

You will enjoy playing there very much, Dave, as it is a very good course with wonderful views and excellent turf to try your new techniques out with the six iron.
The first hole, a short par 3, plays longer than it looks.
If there is a strong wind then it is a pretty difficult course. Enjoy.

Cheers JP, really enjoyed hollingbury. When did you last play here as the par 3 is now the 4th. The old 16, 17, 18 are now 1, 2, 3. Thought my sat nav was up the wall but I sussed it after acouple of holes. Didnt get a lot of chance for my 6 iron of the fairway but did a lot of 6 irons from the tee and still bangin them out there 180-190 yds (with roll). Most green are protected by very small bunkers so the long low aproach didnt seem the route. Only shot 25pts but will defo go back as most would play a bit different. That par 3 4th. hit the green and then 3 putted from 25yds. HUGE GREENS!!!

I have meet many cac handers who hit there Irons a long way so not a suprise to me ,even baseball grippers seem to generate a lot of club head speed.
