Whats in a name?

Posted by: user202037 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Sun 1st Aug 2010 12:00 | Last Reply

First, can you name the four Majors?

That is, with their officially correct titles, without any numbers.

On another Forum this question was met with some fierce argument, not about the Tournament names but who had the right to call themselves The PGA, the US or UK?

David,

THE MASTERS TOURNAMENT is correct.

THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP is correct.

Although, that PGA. is "PGA of America". They registered the name of the tournament before the British Association (The actual PGA) put their name to a Tournament.

OK here are the other two.

THE UNITED STATES OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP The US Open is the Tennis so the full name is used.

THE OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP The only one of the four that actually has Golf in its title.
