Golfshake Open - East Midlands Qualifier - Results

Sunday 25th July saw the East Midlands Qualifier for the Golfshake.com Open 2010 taking place at Springwater Golf Club, Calverton, Nottingham.

There were 34 entrants split virtually equally between handicap categories 1 & 2. Everyone arrived fairly well in time and looking forward to a good days golf. Groupings for the day were pre determined and was kept to 2 players from each category where possible.

The weather was actually very good despite the dullish forecast and the rain kept at bay. The course itself was in great condition considering the thunderstorms we had had on Thursday and part of Friday. The only downside to this was that the bunkers were out of play due to the condition and wetness that was still evident.

Complimenst must go to the green staff for managing to get the course into the condition it was in. I must also congratulate the bar and catering staff who gave us a warm welcome at the bar both before and after the round and with the smooth operation of the food afterwards.

Now to the event - As the scores were coming in it was clear that people were finding the course a tough challenge but there were also some players who clearly enjoyed the course and scored very well indeed. Once all the scores were collated the results are as follows:-

First Place - Kevin Thomson 38pts First Place - Sean Goucher 38pts

Second Place - Martin Millichip 34pts Second Place - Paul Hughes 36pts

Third Place - Alfred Pickard 33pts B6 Third Place - Terry Statham 34pts

Fourth Place - Nigel Carter 33pts B6 Fourth Place - Tony Hawkins 31pts

On the advice of the professional there were nearest the pin prizes on the 5th which was won by Sean Goucher and the 13th which was won by Martin Millichip.

Special mention must go Patrick Moore who only returned a score of 12pts but thoroughly enjoyed taking home abottle of wine and some golfing goodies for his efforts.

Congratulations to all the prize winners and also to Kevin Thomson, Alfred Pickard, Sean Goucher and Paul Hughes who have qualified from the East Midlands for the Golfshake.com Open final which is taking place Wychwood Park on Saturday 11th September 2010.

For information, Martin Millichip qualifies to play in the Organisers Cup so the second Category 1 place goes to Alfred Pickard.
