lost ball in matchplay
Did I read that you cannot win a hole in matchplay with a lost ball?
I scrore 6 with my first ball. My opponant gets a 5 with his 2nd ball. Who wins the hole?

Tquestion to ask though is
did he score 5 and also counted it as 3 off the tee as it is his 2nd ball?

My opponant in theory has got a birdie with his 2nd ball on a par 4 so his medal would be 5 and mine would be 6. I just thought I heared or read that a matchplay hole could not be won with a lost ball. This may be total rubbish.

yes dave it is total rubbish
in matchplay it is just as wayne states it is the lowest score for each hole that wins that hole regardless of any lost balls as long as they have been counted

Lost Ball=Lost Hole
The harsh penalty of lost ball=lost hole was introduced in 1776 by the Bruntsfield/Burgess Club, but changed in 1790 to distance only, then back to loss of hole in 1802.
1882 R&A adopted lost ball=lost hole for match play.
1899 Lost hole, except if ball is lost in water, or out of bounds.
1920 match play penalty made the same as in stroke play
I done a bit of digging and it was in the olden days but it has since changed.

We have also recently seen a number of Rules change to Two Shot Penalties instead of Loss of Hole in Match-play as they were previously.
It was weird that a Player being in breach of a Rule on his 3rd shot lost a hole when his opponent was lying 6 near-by.
