Silly mistakes on the course
Played in a medal format today & was playing really steady. Got to the 7th hole & hit my 3 wood down the middle of the fairway. Had decided today to mark my golf ball with 3 red dots instead of the usual 3 black dots.
One of our playing partners had hit their ball into a ditch OOB so while they were looking for it to retrieve it they told me to carry on. I walked up to the ball in the middle of the fairway, saw 3 red dots & hit my 2nd onto the green. My playing partner walked up to what he thought was his ball only to say to me "aren't you playing a Srixon with 3 red dots". I didn't realise that one of our playing partners had also marked his ball with 3 red dots & I had played his ball.
I had to incur a 2 sholt penatly & walked off with a 6 instead of a par It's something I won't be repeating........ever.
Thankfully I still managed to card a 6 over for the front 9 (1 under).
Got me thinking about what other people had done that had cost them silly shots out on the course.

I was playing in a Medal - came to the 7th tee 2 under my handicap, and teed off from the yellows instead of the whites. The result - I was then playing 3 off of the correct tee. Yet another chance to reduce my handicap wrecked!

I was playing a club in Bristol that has two 18 hole courses. While I was getting changed I was having a casual look at the notice board where the monthly medal results had been posted. I was amazed to see the following disqualifications: -
- One player disqualified for no signitures, no marker's score, no handicap and no shot allownace on the card
- Four players disqualified for no signitures on the card
- Four players disqualified for playing the wrong course!!!!

The markers signature is important because it signifies the correct score of the player whose card he was marking.
The Players signature endorses this, and before he signs, it should check that every hole has been marked correctly and that the total adds up.
Disqualifictation is the only thing that will, in the end, get through to those who think that card marking is a joke.

Completely agree John. How anyone can think they can play in the monthly medal and not have a signature on their card is beyond me. Four players playing on the wrong course just smacks of stupidity
