Woo Hoo

Posted by: user41897 | Tue 20th Jul 2010 19:23 | Last Reply

Just wanted to blow my vuvuzella (or however you spell it).

Shot my first sub 90 round last night on a proper course. T'was at Downshire course in Bracknell that whilst not difficult, it is not without its dangers. Manged to come away with an 89 for 39 points off my 20 hdcp.

Have managed an 83 in the past but that was at Cranham which is a very short and open course (which wreaked my handicap).

Nice to know I do have it in me. Just a pity it didn't show itself at Dunston Hall on Saturday.

One thing I did try last night.  Beacuse I feel rather rigid and feel like I curtail my follow-thru (see photos of Dunston Hall) I tried to emmulate the 'classic' golfer follow-thru with the curved back and all.  It seemed to work and led to a smoother and more controlled strike.  Will have to try it again next time.

Anyway. 89 it was. Played to hdcp. Only one ball in a pond so jolly chuffed.

Great round, Andy, don't decry the course, as it is not as easy as you are making out. It has four very good par fives and  the 4th, 6th, 11th, 15th and the exceptional 16th are all very tough par 4's. A very well balanced course and a credit to the public courses that are around today.

Thanks John. Have only recently discovered Downshire and it is actually a very nice course and very close to our office so convinient too. I managed to par all four par 5's which was very satisfying.
