Going the right way!

Posted by: user121151 | Tue 13th Jul 2010 17:27 | Last Reply

As some may know, I am not a member of a club, but am Secretary of a work society (and get in a game in the week in between these fortnightly games also), and was thinking of joining a club next year to get a proper handicap. However this year, I have been entering my scores on Golfshake to determine my proper handicap, and am enjoying playing a wide variety of courses, so will probably continue this next year.

Anyway, my handicap has been stuck around the 16 mark this year .... until last week.

Tuesday - Tyneside GC (Ryton). 1st 9 holes - 'just' a birdie + 2 pars, then coming back 6 pars & an eagle (chipped in from just off on short par 4)for 10 over par, my best ever by 3 shots. Won society with 33 points off 7 handicap, so cut to 4!! (cannot believe this was good enough to take the free round for 2 prize out of 14 of us). Handicap down to 14.6

Saturday - Sharpley - very short course, most (Par 4's) holes took a good drive & wedge only. If my putting had been anywhere near decent, I would have been well below my new 9 over record. 8 pars & a bird. Hcp now 13.7

Yesterday - Ponteland, much more demanding course (mature Parkland). Only visited the thick trees once, and kept up my good form with 10 pars & a bird, for the same 9 over, and cut to 12.5.

Extremely pleased with my weeks 'work' Not playing til next Monday now, but hope that I can maintain this good run of form. Doesn't it feel good when it all? (well nearly all comes together at one's current level). I'm sure I'll remember this week fondly, but hope to surpass this. Setting my sights on 11 handicap by the end of the year.

Have your handicap reductions been gradually, or through a sudden good run?

Cheers
A happy Gateshead Golfer (Colin)

Hope the TGA handicap cutting gaffer is reading this (you there Chris)...

Not sure if my handicap reduction is gradual or through a sudden good run but will let you know if it ever drops.....
