I don't care who I play with or the tee time. I'm just glad that after countless attempts I'm finally getting to play this course

Whenever I played at my home course in a society I never had to pay a green fee, just the amount to play in the comp which was usually a couple of pound for nearest the pin, longest drive etc.
I don't see why you should have to pay for a green fee if your a member?

I had to pay when I ran the Belfry comp last year, even though I was a member. in hindsight, I should've just booked the tee time directly before or after the comp and played for free.

On a side note, will I be permitted to use the Freecaddie app on my iphone during the comp?
Reply : Wed 14th Jul 2010 10:22
no, it's illegal

I have to pay on society days at both my clubs, and Chris yes you can.

Leyo,
Are you sure, Darren Atkinson posted a link in the Iphone Apps thread which relates to an article submitted by the R&A stating that any device which can be used to inform of weather conditions, temp etc, even if not used, are not permitted?

Leyo,
do you have to pay because the organiser has booked you a place? When I play in societies at my course the organiser doesn't book me a place. So if there are 15 normal players it makes no difference if I play as there will still only be 4 tee times?
Is this a club rule at your course?

Having to pay a 'Green Fee' at a course, where, as a member I can play for free is the reason I withdrew from this event. I was certainly willing to pay for the food and prizes.
Instead I am now caddying for my friend, Mr David Ley.

Wayne,
I'm not doing anything wrong. When the organiser rings up for a price they don't include me in their numbers so I don't see what difference that makes?
My membership is £990, I get to play maximum twice a week in summer & once during winter.
That is one of the benefits you get when you join a course is that you can play multiple times & get the cost benefit.
I think if you've paid your membership then you must be mad to then pay a green fee to play your own course, I can't see the logic
That's like getting your missus to give you a lift in your own car & then pay a taxi charge when you arrive at your destination!!

John,
I totally agree with you.

I'm not sure what the rule is to be honest but I have to pay a green fee for my self when entering Members & Guest and Open days albiet at a reduced rate and there is still the cost of entering club comps £3 at the one and £5 at the other.

Wayne,
If my course allowed the same society to play there every month then I wouldn't expect it to be any different.
Leyo,
I do have to pay to enter members comps or Open days where you are entering a team but deffo not societies.

As long as they've paid up and no-one else has missed out, it's not a problem Dave. At least they let you know

Thanks for setting this up today Dave. A great course that was a good test of golf, the weather making it even tougher. I'd love to play the course again when the weather (and my swing) is in a more friendly mood

Well done David on a great day, I enjoyed our 4/5 ball immensely. Listening to John ripping Dave on a hole by hole basis was a joy!!
