Lessons - never had any!
I guess y'all would say they are worth the money so I guess I should arrange some!

They can be worth the money providing the pro is serious in trying to improve your game. Giving someone a fault to correct a fault is not the way to go and I have seen this for myself.
Any method will hit a great ball, occasionally, but to be consistent there is only one way and that is the correct way.
If one is not prepared to work at the correct way, then one will end up like the majority of golfers, with a high handicap.

So you are admitting to a lack of ambition where the game of golf is concerned.

Only ever had one lesson - and thought it was a waste of time cus the pro just didnt seem 100% there !! (thats not to say all pros are like that ) but in the end I have just tried to learn as much from books, magazines, tv, others, etc......... When you think about it carefully it all makes sense and chances are you can probably diagnose what your doing wrong anyway (and yes i know, before you all say but that dont mean you can cure it).
I think a good pro is someone who will listen and work on the part of the game you want to work on !!

Wayne - only 7 more shots !! Im sure you will get there very soon. Do you workon different things each time you have a lesson ? or does the pro re-assess if you have improved from the last time on the things you were doing wrong ???

Wayne - sorry if you got the wrong impression, I assumed that because your mate was quite content that you agreed with him.
I am probably older than you, being 70, and I have known what it is like to be a scratch golfer. My body also does not want to do what the brain is telling it and that is why I am where I am today, but I know that now I have started back playing again, that it will not be long before I knock it round under 80 again.
I agree with Alps, as I also learned this game from a book from the library way back in the fifties. The game then, was all about cocking and uncocking of wrists and hitting against a braced left leg. Shaping a ball to increase the margin for error was also the way to go, but the modern game with this square to square method does not inspire the flair ballesteros introduced into the game.
Of course Tiger has a mentor, but not exactly the same as having a lesson, it is more for support than anything else as you well know that it is impossible to see a fault creeping in in ones own game and once this is pointed out by his mentor then he knows exactly what to do to correct it.
Perhaps one day we will have a game together.

I think thats a lil too expensive personally - here in Leics they are about £15+. I understand that prices vary but ok at tops I would probably pay max £30, but I would expect that to be on a proper area with a good reputable instructor - and not on a driving range of matts like one of the courses does in leicester.
for £50 i would rather enjoy playing a nice round on a good course (but hey thats just poor old me......... for donations i accept cheques and all major creit cards hahahahha) lol

There are always exceptions to prove the rule, Matt, but even Jim Furyk is correct when he goes throught the ball.
Single figure handicappers do know what the game is all about or they would not be there.

Matt
It has improved my swing no end - It is broken down into bite size chunks and you basically practice what you are being coached. I recommend it but would also say it might not be everybodies cup of tea.
Keep an eye out on the golf channel as he some times has a slot on there but obviously the dvd is more informative.
