Exercise requird for recovery of Knee Injury
I hope someone out there can help me.
I thought i was on the way to full rehabilitation of my serious back ailment after my fitness levels improved substantially through April and early May.
How wrong i was, about 3 weeks ago i came off the course after 18 holes after walking briskly between most of my shots and still feeling as fit as a lop.
The following day i started to get a twinging pain in my left knee and muscle spasms in a few muscles directly adjacent above and below my left knee. I am right handed and when i even tried a practice swing and put a little strain on my left knee it became extremely painful, so this has since prevented me from playing and all i could do was just walk without any pain.
I thought i had recovered by the middle of last week, so last friday night for 10 minutes only before he went to his cricket coaching at hislocal team i gave my youngest lad some basic cricket coaching advice relating to bowling comprising body mechanics, co-ordination, foot position, arm positions and the benefits of learning the correct bowling technique that minimises stress on his body, and how important it is that he listens to his coaches and does what he is told.
The following morning i had trouble walking as soon as i got out of bed and it got no better by the end of the day, Sunday came i had had trouble putting any weight on my left leg. yesterday was another day of rest with signs of improvement, so far today i have seen further improvement and have made an appointment to see my doctor to discuss my diagnosis and how best to exercise to recover from the problem.
I have self diagnosed my knee peoblem as being ITBS, iliotibial band syndrone. This is a common problem that affects the lateral side (outside) of the knee. And being right handed there is a tremendous amount of stress on the left knee on my follow through as it twists. Because of my lower back ailment this injury ITBS will have a direct influence on any possible relapse of the improvements i have shown in the last 4 months.
I was hoping someone out there who has had the same problem could provide me with some advice on how they treated this injury and what exercise regime they used to recover so as to play again.

Colin, I dont have the same problem as you albiet my right knee is not very good but doesn't hinder my swing , I do have a similar problem to yourself as my right leg is a lot shorter too from a fermur break and lower back has issuses. For your knee I would go to your local swimming pool and just use the resistance of the water either by leg extensions whilts hanging against the side or even just walking up and down ,the bounus is everything eles gets worked at the same time.
If you don't already do this make sure your left foot is flared out towards target this will dramatically reduce the twist in the knee. Good Luck.

Colin. Having suffered with my knees for the best part of 35 years the first thing I'd say is do not, ever, rely on self-diagnosis from the internet. The knee is a very complex bit of kit and some symptoms present themselves as a result of damage elsewhere. Go and see your GP and get referred to a specialist. Apart from that I'd go with Dave on exercise, anything low impact is good especially swimming - I also used a cross-country ski trainer when I had access to a gym which also helped.

That's it Colin I wasn't suggesting swimming just excercise just walking side to side is good enough, what did the GP say?

I've seen your swing leyo on youtube, you hit it straight by the looks of it, what more do you want.
To lose 4 stone and grow a couple of inches for someone with no atheletic ability and no natural talent I get away with murder!
