Downwards strike, ball before turf.  The ball should always be struck like this mind.....

There are two questions here.

1. How to spin a Full Shot.

and

2. How to spin a Chip-shot.

I have a few 'shots' at my disposal which are not in most text books.

When confronted with a ball sat in longish grass close to a green, play it like a bunker shot.

When you want to put spin on a chip-shot make sure you keep the clubhead low through the ball, this allows the ball to zip more up the grooves. This may not be easily digested from words but I hope you all understand what I am meaning.

It is no use trying to hit a low zip chip off a wet fairway because it just doesn't work, you need a hard surface in order to squeeze the ball and generate extra spin.
