What can I drive?

Posted by: user303548 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Tue 25th May 2010 16:24 | Last Reply

What driver is suitable for me?

I am looking to add a driver to my bag as I am fed up with all my mates chatting amongst themselves 20/30 yards further up the fairway (when I'm on it, that is). Up till now, my trusty three wood is the weapon of choice, but this new generation of more 'user friendly' drivers with mahoosive heads are very tempting.

Where do I start? What a nightmare trying to decide. First off, I am on a budget and am not adverse to buying second hand.

Can anyone recommend anything just to give me a starting point?

Basically,

Go a shop that has a range. This is a must.  Went to American Golf a few weeks back and hit a few drivers in the indoor bays hooked up to a computer. APPARENTLY I was hitting the ball left (draw), carrying 200 yards and, get this, rolling 60 yards! Really, I said and said my goodbyes and walked out.  Utter crap. Get to a range.

Hit as many different makes of drivers you can within your budget and dont be swayed by what the shop assistant or Pro get comission on.

Get fitted.

Short, but sweet.
