A round of two halves

Posted by: user33026 [FORUM MODERATOR] | Mon 24th May 2010 23:48 | Last Reply

Now I've known for some time that inconsistency has been the cause of my handicap not coming down, but this is ridiculous.

Had a round after work, joining up with another single on the first tee. My front 9 was nothing short of shocking (with the odd random par thrown in). I couldn't hit it straight and had no rhythm. Nothing was working. 51 (16 over gross) for the 9 was probably better than I deserved.

Then we started the back 9 and eveything just clicked. Long and straight off the tees, hitting the greens, sinking putts, everything. I carded 37 (2 over gross), the first time I've gone sub-40 for 9 holes. I had two blemishes on the back; pulling a wedge into a greenside lake and managing to hit my PW 140 yards to clear the island green 17th. The 2 holes with penalties were the only ones I didn't par or better.

How? Why? What did I do? When will I do it again? How can I do it again? I don't feel I did anything different (bar figuring out what was wrong with my swing). How can I get a round together where I can do what I did on the back today the whole way round?

Here's the gross card. It just doesn't make sense.

Its a mental thing I think Chris, but at least you did it the right way around. You probably were a bit tight after work for the first 9, then loosened up and relaxed around the back when you did not have a score to worry about.

A good start to the back 9 also would have helped.
