Old wooden 4 wood.

Posted by: user16106 | Thu 13th May 2010 21:23 | Last Reply

After reading the thread about johns birthday round and his old prosimmon wood, I ventured into the loft and found an old 4 wood that I bought from an "experienced club" bin at a pro shop about 8 years ago. I have probably played about 10 shots before with it and have decieded to give it a full round. It is a PFG status tpw 4 wood. There is no loft stamped on it and the face looks like plastic held on to a laminated wooded head with 4 brass screws. I cant find anything on the net about it.

I cant hit much more than about 220yds with my 13.5 deg driver. So I dont think I,ll be too far behind with this little beast.

I won our last society so on sunday I drop 3 shots to 12 hcp so I,ve nothing to loose.

Anyone out there still using these old style clubs? and how do they fair distance wise.

Took my 4 wood for my society yesterday and hit a few good drives 200yd plus. Also a few not so good. Scored 29 pts off 12hcap. Not too bad but didnt win. Will have to take it up the range to try out diff tees and ball position for next time.

Dave CAC handed Geordie.

I sometimes drag my woods out for a play over the range.  They don't quite have the distance of my metal equivalents, although that may be down to the fairly whippy shafts compared to what I'm used to, but the ball flight is completely different.  They fly really low before climbing and stay straighter in crosswinds, to the extent that I may even take them next time I play a links course...
