Relief From..................

Posted by: user127691 | Thu 22nd Apr 2010 12:10 | Last Reply

Was out practicing on the course last night and came up against 3 incedents where I was unsure about taking a drop. obviously it had no bearing last night but in a comp what would be my options for these 3 situations.

1 - Ball went near to a large water hazard and came to rest behing a post with a life ring on it and what looked like a large elctricity box probably to do with the pond fountain. Can I take relief from this or do I have to chip out sideways?

2 - Came to rest tight up against a boundary wall, do I have to take a penalty drop or can I get relief?

3 - Ball came to right on the edge of another large water feature, the fairway was higher than the water so there is a brick wall built up to retain the fairway THe top of the wall is level with the fairway. My balls stopped half ontop of the brickwork wall & half on the fairway, obviously I could hit the ball just at the risk of damaging my club so could I have got relief from this?

Gary,

I can only give you a clear answer to No2 now but would need to know how the Local Rules treat the others.

2. No free relief from any Boundry Fence or Out of Bound Posts.

1. Does the course treat the Post as an Immovable Obstruction or an Integral part of the course?

3. Where is the line for the Water Hazard? It would usually be on the FW, Green side of the bricks so that the bricks are actually inside the Hazard?

One thing to remember. A ball has to be totally over an Out of Bounds Line to be OoB, but a ball only has to touch a Water Hazard Line to be in the hazard.
