Canons Brook - Harlow

Posted by: user266147 | Mon 22nd Feb 2010 11:51 | Last Reply

Hi All, has anybody played the above course at all? I've had a quote for some lessons from a pro at the club and they are at a good rate. I've heard the course has a good reputation, but does anyone have any experience of the course and general atmosphere of the club there before I book a round to give it a try out with a view to taking out a membership?

Matt, I played this course a few times when it first opened about 40 years ago. It was the start of the new breed of longer courses and was a tough cookie in those days.

A membership there would certainly help to improve your game, but I am asking myself the question, why?, when just nearby there is Stapleford Abbots, with two courses and the freedom to play another 50, some very near to where you live.

There is a game up at Canon's Brook GC on one of the other forums I frequent.

Let me know if you would like to try the course and I'll put you down as a guest.

We play on a Monday, tee off around 10am, special deal of £15 for a round of golf.

A nice gesture indeed, Alan, I am sure Matt will be taking you up on  it.

An old pro that I used to know at Saltford G.C. Nr Bath took the pros job at Canons brook when it first opened. He was very famous, with a great record as a player and teacher. Perhaps you could ask about him next time you are at your club. His name was Bernard Cooke.

Hi Matt, answered the question about the Risebridge game today on another post.

The game we play is always on a Monday and it's going to be held once a month.

Next game is on the 1st March.
