Destructive slice

Posted by: user126737 | Wed 9th Dec 2009 17:25 | Last Reply

I have been playing a little over 18 months now and I'm totally hooked on this wonderful game,I have taken some lessons which have helped greatly but now i have acquired the dreaded slice with my driver so bad thatI never use, more to my horror my 3 Wood is also slicing,my confidence has plummetted so much that i'm a wreck on the tee,I know it's my swing but I just cannot correct it,I have slowed down, changed grip and even been to church!!! but no solution,I would appreciate any ideas that I can take to the driving range.

Kind

Regards

Well, Dave, your actual swing looks pretty good but unfortunately you are swinging on an incorrect path.

Your hands at address are, in my opinion, way too far away from your body. This would be OK if you managed to keep the right elbow close to the body on the downswing, but unfortunately, you don't, thus coming across the ball from outside to in, creating the dreaded slice.

The problem could be solved in ten minutes and I am surprised that your teaching pro is not doing this.

Dave your hands look quite far forward and the stance a little upright. I'm sure some JP will give a much better analysis when he takes a look.

I'm no expert Dave, but it looks like at initial address you position the ball by the toe of the club....this gives the impression you are "reaching" too much for the ball in the downswing?

I'm sure one of the better students of the game will be along soon.

I've not swung a club for 3 months and have nipped to the range today ready for a game tomorrow.  Slice still staying away but minor pull.

Great when you hit a good shot though, feels good.
