golf can be so cruel

Posted by: user94811 | Sat 14th Nov 2009 10:46 | Last Reply

I went to my club as normal this morning , fully aware that the weather forecast was not too good.

I decided to try out a demo set of Wilson DI9 irons and also the Wilson Smooth demo driver.

Rain had started just as we teed off and it never stopped.

I hit the driver better than my current Ping G10 and the irons were right out of the middle every time.

We played 9 holes -I bogeyed our 2 par 3;s and parred every other hole.

it was the best golf I have played all year under the worst conditions--and then the greens got so bad that we had to call it a day. I did ask ( well more like plead and threaten) my playing partenrs to go on but they were not interested. It was the correct decision anyway as the greens were flooding in front of our eyes but i was desperate to play on and complete 18 holes

It is if the golfing gods were teasing me -letting me play great golf and then saying-right thats enough -9 holes will do today.

Anyway, perhaps next week I wil be able to recapture todays form --but I doubt it very much

Who knows, Drew, maybe you will, but for sure it will not be down to the Wilsons.

The golfing Gods can be cruel.  i shot an 81, been looking to shoot under my handicap for months now.  All I keep thinking is what if I'd played like this without the wind or driving rain?

Funny old game.

Just thought I would add an update to my original  post.

I bought the Wilson DI 9's in the middle of December, just before the snow started and had never been able to play with them until tody. That was 6 weeks  ( maybe more) without playing golf-longest spell in my entire life.

Anyway , went out today, not expecting too much and with my new clubs I blew the course apart. Scratch 74-net 61 -44 stableford points although it was 18 winter greens.

And---- I only scored on 16 holes. I took a double bogey 6 at our second hole and then a triple bogey 6 at a short par 3. If only --I could have broken 70!!!!!

My post was entitled golf can be cruel--I think I got some payback today

Greg, why on earth would I want to do that?
