Just Got A Skycaddie - Quick Question

Posted by: user243326 | Fri 23rd Oct 2009 07:31 | Last Reply

Got it all sync'd and it appears ready for use. But my question is on the subscription. If I just register and do not pay the membership fee, what use is my skycaddie? I mean...will it still work or does it mean I have to manually walk the course myself and input the information?

I do not fully understand if i "need" the subscription to get the GPS info or like a satnav, it will know where I am and give me the details accordingly?

Can someone who has this product clarify before I  hand over my £40.

(as an aside, and I am sure this has been discussed previously, if I do have to pay to get the information to make it work, it seems a bit of a rip)

Sounds like a rip off to me. Free Caddie all the way it may not be as accurate but i'm not good enough to honestly say that a few yards accuracy is going to affect me.

Thanks guys - but I am still a little unclear.

If I do not have a subscription and turn up at my local course, will it still give me information?  Or does it have to be mapped first?

Am I paying the extra £40 for "perfect mapping" as done by a proffessional walk of the course...whereas the non subscription will just rely on GPS?  Or willI get no informatiion at all unless I subscribe?

Like gary I am in no position to worry about the odd yard here and there!

I would have thought all of this information would be in the instructions or on their website?

Seeing as they are making a mint selling the subscriptions to people I doubt very much if they would put it in there instructions!

They may mention it right at the back of the book, in small print.

When I had my Skycaddie I found all the information really helpful & I was aware of the subscription costs before I purchased mine.

It's not a rip off if you take into account how much stroke savers are. If you play the same course every week then you maybe should have opted for the Sureshot as you get 3 free course downloads.
