Not a bad deal.......

Posted by: user248765 | Thu 10th Sep 2009 09:02 | Last Reply

Hi all

Just thought I would let everyone know about the stonking deal that I've had. I noticed a thread a while back, discussing membership fees and how some clubs are still refusing to waive their joining fees and still charging high prices to join.

There is part of me that agrees with the high membership prices becasue of the very fact that the high prices means that you should get high standards and (without wanting to sound like a snobby git, but probably doing so anyway!!) a slighlty elitist culture within the club. That said, too much elitism can create an uncomfortable atomsphere, not just within the golfing fraternity but in all walks of life.

So, I wanted a club where, to begin with, I could learn my trade without that feeling of being an outsider in a secret memebrs circle but also a club that had half decent facilities. A club very local to me, where I have been playing with one half of the out-laws (Mother in law!!) is a club that is part muni and part members, whereby you can turn up and play but they also have a membership system.

The gentleman who runs the club, owns it outright and he does deals with new members on the fees to get them through the door. I was able to negiotiate an annual memebrship with no joining fee for £250. I think that is probably that deal of the century in regards to golf club membership and I was wondering whether any of you guys have got any similar stories of fantastic deals you have got?

And finally (as i realise I have rattled on a bit!) I wanted to say that for those of you looking to join a club, always ask for a deal becasue as my old man still says, "if you don't ask, you don't get!"

Deal of the century?

I got 14 months for the price of 12 at Sherfield Oaks. Normal price is £1200 for the year. I got it for £420 as I am under 30 and they were trying to get more 'youngsters' to join. Works out as £30 a month!!!!

This gives me the choice of playing two great courses at Sherfield anytime of the week. In addition to this I can also play any other course in the Crowm network (about 35 courses I believe) for free anytime during the week and after 2pm at weekends!

Now that is a deal!!!

and now i have to go to work
