HOLY SMOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today was a Charity Day for the R.N.L.I and we were out there this afternoon. A little windy and black clouds rolling in and then blowing away as fast as they arrived. Little showers that didn't wet us.
When we were playing the 14th, one of the guys got his GPS out and shouted over, complaining that his screen had just gone blank. At that same instant the sky lite up and a mighty BANG rang out. I bolted for the near-by hut leaving my clubs where they were. I was joined seconds later by the rest of my four plus the Four that were following us. Eight guys in a hut with room for about 6 and one of them was also trying to get his clubs in too. Another flash followed by another loud CRACK and this guys clubs were thrown away from the hut.
A couple of minutes later there was blue sky visable and we had had no rain. We finished the round without anymore incidents. Strange happenings.

Hi Lyth, was this at Horsforth? At high up Calverley they have a siren system.

Yes Patrick, it hit out of nowhere. The hairs on my arms usually tingle when an Electric Storm is about but not this time.
With the Airport next door you think we would have got some sort of warning.

Had a similar though less life threatening experience last winter.
Started the round and played the first six holes under blue skies and hardly a breath of wind. A large bank of black cloud loomed up out of nowhere and in a howling gale dumped a large amount of hail stones on me and my playing partners as we sheltered under trees. Course completely white under a half inch covering.
Fifteeen minutes later blue sky appeared and within 10 minutes we were playing on a green if soggy course and no wind. Completed the rest of the round in the same conditions without seeing another cloud. Weird.
