Handicap changes in comps with 3/4 used...
A minor question relating to the latest Gtour comp at Mannings Heath but could apply to any comp.
The comp was played with 3/4 handicaps so I played of 17. I manged only 26 points but was happy.
The scores have been entered onto GS based on the 17 handicap and hence my handicap goes up +0.1. Were the score to be based on my full handicap it would have been 32 points and may have scraped into a buffer zone.
If, for instance, you have a club handicap and play in a stableford comp on reduced handicap, is your handicap adjusted based on the reduced handicap - would have thought not?
It doesn't bother me either way really but was just interested on what is the correct methodology.

In actual fact, Andy you played to 27 handicap so +0.1 is correct. In days gone by all Stableford competitons were played off 7/8ths handicap. 3/4 will definitely favour the lower handicappers and the results prove this to be the fact.
Off 23.4 you should have received 17.55(18) strokes not seventeen.

Hi Guys, I would ask Darren to answer your first question Andy but in response to your observation John the method used is to round the handicap first then apply the 3/4 before rounding again. Hence 3/4 of 23 Hcp is 17.25 which rounds down to 17

Andy the system will always make the adjustment based on your actual playing handicap based off your exact handicap and your exact handicap is adjusted accordingly.
The system allows for a strokes value to be entered per round which is used for the stableforld points ONLY which allows the option for 3/4, 7/8 etc etc. This does not have any bearing on the handicap calculations.
The 3/4 method used is 3/4 of playing handicap which is your exact handicap rounded up or down.
Regards, Darren.

what you score per your card in terms of shots per hole GROSS has no bearing on what shots you received per 'competition'
i.e. your actual card score is the only data that gets recorded 'whatever that may be' irrespective of competition adjustments !

okay. Think that answers it.
Actual strokes are entered in the system.
Stableford points are calculated based on the comp strokes received - be it 3/4 or 7/8.
Handicap calculations are based on the full handicap strokes recieved.
Thats fine. Thanks for clearing up.
