What not to wear?????
With me being a brand spanking newbie (so not knowing anything).....and with the summer nearly over and winter only a few months away - What do you guys wear when winter golfing? obviously if it is raining we are talking about waterproofs.....but what if it is just damn cold? Do collars still have to be on show if your wearing a jumper???? do you take a coat for walking in-between holes???
I know I'm prob sounding very stupid but once I have lessons out of the way my early rounds are no doubt going to be cold up here in N.Yorks

Wear whatever is comfortable Lewis. Just make sure you follow your clubs rules (if they have any).
Usually a jumper and trousers are sufficient for me in winter but then I am down south where it is like Spain compared to N Yorkshire

When youre down in Reading Lewis let me know - we'll get a game at Sherfield organised (only down the road too). We can show you Northerners how to play proper
(any comments above are meant in jest - the South won the bragging rights for this year with their victory in the N v S)

I suggest going for several thin layers Lewis. You will find you are warmer but it won't interfere with your swing as much as a couple of thick layers will.

no, not where i play but it could depend on which club youre playing at...

Lewis I'm from even further north and on the North Sea Coast. It's freezing in the summer here, had hailstones on the course on Monday :lol
In winter if it's dry I tend to wear a long sleeved roll neck top and then a short sleeved windshirt on top of that. Keeps me warm and allows for plenty of movement and no swing restriction. My Calloway bobble hat tops off the look. I carry my waterproofs in my bag all year round as our weather is just so un-predictable.
I think I look better in my winter gear as the extra layers tend to hide the paunch a bit better.

I think there is a recognition that it's not possible to dress warmly and adhere to strict dress codes. Your own common sense should come into play, especially with regards to logos on tops etc.
Best thing I ever invested in was a set of thermal underwear (long johns and a long sleeved top). Never going to get the ladies chasing after me, but very warm, comfortable and doesn't affect the swing at all.

All during the winter I get laughed at because it appears that I only have a shirt and Pullover, but my thermal vest works wonders. I never need any leg protection as it does not get cold enough down in the South.

That's not why they're laughing at you John...

eeh, bah gum - don't even bother with a jumper until it gets to -15C.
John, couldn't help chuckling remembering the time at Foxhills with us both wrestling with your fishing waterproofs in the torrential rain...

Well, Tim, my cold threshold has changed as I have got older, so I tend to use my thin thermal top when the temp drops to below 10 deg C and when it get nearer to freezing I have a higher rated thermal top which does the business.
How could I forget Foxhills, Tim, another day organised by the weather expert Darren. I got soaked trying to get those trousers on and I have since ripped the inside out of them, but I douibt I will use them.

Wear what you want in the winter. Played in jeans and tee shirts before now but no one can see as I have my waterproof trousers and wind/waterproof top on over the afforementioned items. Whatever feels comfortable but still looks respectable basically.
