To Add Or Not To Add??
Hi Guys,
Just want opinions of what you guys would do given the following situation.
I played Wokefield Park today and was 1 under through 6 when we arrived at the 7th and realised a temporary green was in play. I parred this hole but then went on to bogey 8th, 9th, 10th & 11th and these were all on temporary greens.
I finished my round 11 over but am in 2 minds as to whether I should track this for handicap purposes as there were 5 temporary greens in play today.
What do you guys think?
I will add my round anyway, I'm just in 2 minds whether to handicap track it..
Cheers
Lee

Temporary greens do not make the course any easier, Lee, so I would be pleased with that round, especially the start, and would have no compunction in submitting the round for handicap purposes.
I certainly would not pay their green fees for temporary greens though.

The green fee was only £10, although for the standard of the course, I expected a bit more effort with the temporary greens. They were just in the fairways but with no real effort made to cut them or make them easy to putt on.. Putting was a lottery.
There was only 5 holes that had temporary greens, but 4 of my dropped shots came from the temporary greens.

why would a course have so many temps this time of year anyway? are they renovating the course? and lastly were you made aware of this before you played?
I would have gone elsewhere!

I would definitely count that round. The object of the game is to get the ball in the hole, did you get the ball in the hole??? Hell Yeah!
Don't take life (or golf) too seriously, we're not pro's!
You had a good round and played the course in front of you......
Nice score Lee!

Dennis - No, we wasn't made aware of this before our round, however, the fella in the shop did mention how quiet it was so I assume they have taken the opportunity to do what they need to do now before they get some heavier traffic. And anyway, £10 to play Wokefield Park is a bargain in my opinion.. So I can't complain too much..
Simon - My thinking was I can only play whats put in front of me, and I did, and its not like I had any benefit from the temp greens as I bogeyed 4 of the 5!
And my handicap is just for a general idea.. I'm not a member anywhere but like to know what kind of standard I am at.. Or rarely at I guess!
I have tracked it, and it took 1.2 off my handicap.. That puts me at 14.2... Where I'm most comfortable I feel!
Cheers for your input guys.

Well, Mr Marshall, technically of course you are right, but to me it is refreshing to see a player pleased to reduce his handicap as opposed to maintaining a higher one.
We both know the course, its difficulties and you will have to admit that Lee's score was excellent, even more so that he had to try and putt on temporary greens, which are smaller to hit in the first place than the original greens.
As he pointed out, he is not a member of a club so I commend him for his action in submitting this card to Golfshake as that is where he play his competitive golf and I am quite sure you would not be too pleased to have to play against his power and a higher handicap than his abilities.

Back to the original thread. Lee I'd not class any round involving temporary greens for handicap and I think JP's comments about courses thyat charge the full green fee are taking the piss, if enough people voted with their feet then policy would have to be changed. My old club Calverley in Leeds regularly had 6 temp greens in winter. It does depend on the condition of the winter greens but for the most part it's the fairway.

At least (in my case) and I'm sure as is the case with many - at least your Golfshake handicap can be the result of +20/30/40 entries and therefore more 'representative' of ones handicap as opposed to somebody entering less than 5 competitions each year with their home club !

Colin, I agree with you entirely. The golfshake system does give a far more reliable handicap due to the fact that every game one plays can be entered. CONGU just do not agree, so the system we have at clubs still remains flawed in many aspects.
I would also scrap both SSS and CSS and play to par, after all the pros do.
