South Yorkshire Qualifier Results

Here are todays results from the South Yorkshire Qualifier

with all 14 people who registered turning up to play and the sun was shining it was hoped to be a good days golf

Things started as expectations was hoping them to with all the first group driving it straight on the first tee and as they walked off the tee the sun was shining, and with the following 2 groups all doing the same it was looking like a good score would be needed to compete for the prizes

The first prze on offer today was nearest the pin on the 3rd hole par 3 142yds which doesnt sound to hard but it took until the next to last group before a marker was set with malc fell setting 18ft as the target, with me in the last group i stepped up to try but only just missed out by 1ft but then a superb shot from Peter Wilson hit his shot to within 6ft of the hole and at one stage it looked as if it was going to be an ace, so the first trophy of the day

Peter Wilson

congratulations peter

Continuing on the sun got a little hotter and the golf seemed to be improving.

we decided to have a nearest the pin in 2 rather than a longest drive challeng which was to be on the 15th hole a 302yrd par 4, standing on the tee in the last group i had driver in hand thinking i was a big boy and gave it an almighty whack which in truth went nice and straight and finished just 8ft from the front of the green, a feat that wasnt recreated by my playing partners 2 of which hooked it into the trees on the left and although peter wilson hit a good drive he took himself out of the running by susequently duffing his chip shot much to his dismay i then approached the green and upon seeing the marker had thoughts of glory in my mind thinking i could get closer with my second shot, this was not the case as i decided to use my putter and left it agonizingly 24ft short (D'OH) and after knocking the put in for birdie it picked up the marker to find that Martin Millichip had holed out his second shot from 82yrds away. so congratulations to the nearest the pin in 2 winner

MARTIN MILLICHIP

With the sun still shining through the cloud cover that had slowly appeared we finished our rounds and totted up the scores over the meal afterwards

and now for the final scores

With only 14 players attending and three of them were non qualifiers this meant that there was just 1 spot up for grabs in the Golfshake Open, i did however already have ordered and payed for a winners trophy for each category, cat 1(0-18) and cat 2(19-28)

Category 2 was a closly fought affair with the 2 top players both scoring in the 40pts area but with a total of 41pts and showing his son there is life in the old dog yet and also overall winner and collecting the spot in the golfshake open was

LES BARNARD

CONGRATULATIONS LES

2ND placewas Phil Barnard with 40pts

In the category 1 section the was only 4 players eligible for the trophy but was in the end won by 35pts with the winner being

DARREN MILLICHIP

2nd place was Niel Beech with 25pts

Last but not least a little mention to the player who unfortunately has the title of final placeand best effort goes  to Paul Ward who finished with 16pts, better luck next time Paul

Overall i would say a good day was had by all with some fine golf being played and some not so fine and on a personal not i would like to say thanks to everyone who turned up and made it an ejoyable one

the pics will be on soon

Regards

Darren
