Callaway FT-IQ Driver
Has anyone tried this driver, what do you think?

David,
I have got this in 10* stiff, regular bias. Have had it for several months and think it is great. Unfortunately haven't played since the end of June due to back problems but when I was playing it was probably my best club. A nice easy swing and I was getting 300 yards plus. A few have gone a bit awol but that is down to me being a high-handicapper and nothing to do with the club. As always with clubs everyone has their own opinion but this was definately money well spent for me.

I tried the FTi when I was looking, but I preferred the Diablo. Head was a little light for my liking due to the composite, but I don't know if the FTi-Q will be the same.

I tried the Diablo when trying the FT-iQ and it was ok but I found the FT-iQ to work better for me. The shaft on this is slightly shorter than I have used before which gives a bit more control.

Chris,
I average a controlled 240-250, but if I really let loose I can touch 280-290. Power is not everything though and games are won and lost on and around the green, which is why I work more on my short game than anything else (although not as much on my putting as I should).
The wife's cousin played with me a couple of times, a young fit lad who was a true 28+ handicapper. All he ever did was go down the range and belt his driver and 3 wood. Off the tee he was monster long, 20-30 yards longer than me, and straight as an arrow. He could hit an iron just as well 80% of the time too. He thought he was the dogs being two or three clubs less into the green than me on par 5's. Unfortunately, he was all out rip it or nothing. If he didn't leave himself a full club into the green or just missed it he was screwed. Chips generally cleared the green without touching them and when he did get on he was happy with a 3 putt.

Why disbelieve what someone says just because they are a high handicapper? I have driven the green on three holes at my local course which are 311, 295 and 318 yards off the yellows. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean that no-one else can. My short game is terrible which is why I am a 28, I regularly putt between 35-40 times a round and this is my problem. I was trying to give my opinion on the club and then you get people taking the p*ss!

27 handicap and you hit the ball 300 yards with a nice easy swing ?

I owned the Ft-i, was the best club for feel and consistency. Consistantly shorter than my normal driving distance! Apparantly the Ft-iq is longer, hence my interest.
As a left hander they are rare as rocking horse sh*t to try a demo club.
Given the change of topic re ball striking and distance, most of my playing partners can't believe i'm 18 hcp as I hit the ball so well (most of the time), in fact i'm getting a bit sick of the comment to be fair!!! A hcp and ball striking ability are not a common factor, hence i use a good ball and strike it well. Just wish I could finish up in style a bit more often and watch the hcp slide!!

David,
Keep doing what you did on the 16th on Saturday & the hcap will drop. Driver, 6iron 1 putt, 3, nett 2 for 4 points!
If you get anymore distance from the tee you may only need a half set of clubs
John.

John,
As I can only use about half of my clubs properly that sounds ideal!!!

Some of the factors may have been on those days Richard drove the greens the wind is with, the ground was nice & hard all resulting in a bit more distance.
Also some of the yardages that the holes say they are probably aren't correct as they position the tees forward.
Richard have you tried using a GPS to measure your distances, you may be suprised!

I couldn't agree more, being able to carry it 250 is good yardage, the total amount travelled really depends on ball flight, course conditions and where the ball lands!!
